Sperm Donation

Sperm donation is the process through which a man donates his sperm to help an individual or a couple to have a child. Sperm can either be placed directly into the uterus (Intrauterine insemination, IUI) or be used for fertilization of ova via IVF.

The sperm donor, who remains anonymous, needs to be tested before the procedure, to confirm that he is free of any diseases or risk factors as provided by the legal framework. Moreover, a man who is thinking of becoming a sperm donor should be aware that this procedure poses no risks to his health.

The donation takes place in the sperm bank after all the necessary preparation instructions have been given. Subsequently, the sample is frozen and the next months all the donor’s necessary tests are being run.

If the results are negative, the sample is thawed and the man is eventually used for sperm donation
