The rates of male fertility are gradually deteriorating due to bad lifestyle choices. According to the findings from two studies presented at the annual conference of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, sperm quality has been progressively deteriorating by about 2% annually. For couples trying to conceive, the modern lifestyle choices of men are mostly to blame for this drop in fertility rates.

Inactive lifestyle has an impact on fertility, as men tend to eat less healthier compared to previous generations. Balanced and proper nutrition, regular exercise and self-care assist in keeping the body healthy in general, so they can also help in protecting your fertility.

In addition, stress, fatigue and lack of adequate sleep can have a negative effect in the long run not just on sperm quality, but also on the couple’s relationship and sexual behavior. The list of bad habits also includes smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and substance abuse, which affect the health, morphology and motility of sperm.

According to a US study published in the Human Reproduction journal, men who wear tight underwear have problems with sperm count. As the researchers explain, experiencing rise in body temperature caused by the tight underwear, staying in warm baths and saunas for a long time or placing a laptop on your lap affect the ability of the testicles to produce sperm.
